Novel approach Dr. Zolman ...

The first half of the textbook is devoted to teaching statistical concepts, with a focus on ANOVA, used in analyzing bench experiments. What is novel is the use of the 'hypertext' method, in which statistical terms and concepts are referenced to guide the reader to different sections in the book to learn, eventually relearn, the topic; an interesting approach in teaching statistics. The last half of the textbook are 100 teaching cases identifying common faults in the design or reasoning when developing research questions. I suggest readers follow his approach and utilize this teaching method to assimilate this important science.

An excellent way to learn biostatistics

What makes this book stand out from other books on biostatistics is the 100 summarized and briefly critiqued experiments in the second half of the book. I found that critiquing the experiments and comparing to the author's critique dragged me kicking and screaming to a better understanding of statistics in biological experiments. The book has trained me to quickly review other experiments well.
