Grade 9 Up—Ardelius follows the frenetic course of an all-consuming teen love affair from first chance sexual encounter to inevitable atrophy as everyday insecurities encroach. Told through short conversational passages, the narrative is comprised largely of dialogue between Morris and Betty and glimpses into the couple's quiet, intimate moments. Such scenes are interspersed with their inner thoughts (mainly his) and snapshots of Morris's mother and father, who are respectively flighty and manic-depressive. It is these parental weaknesses that feed Morris's own fears about the attraction between two people and indirectly spur the downward trajectory of the relationship. Ardelius's prose, translated from Swedish, poetically bottles the universal delirium and unsustainable pace of first love. American readers expecting a typical teen love story, however, will not find it here. Certain aspects of the story, such as the nonchalance of Betty's mom when her daughter's boyfriend walks downstairs in the morning for breakfast, have a distinctly European ring. Passages are intentionally oblique at times, but the emotional resonance is sweeping. decorative Russian ornament

I love all things Russian and this sourcebook is no exception. This incredible reference is written in English, Spanish, French and German. The collection brings together details from ancient Russian manuscripts from the tenth to the sixteenth centuries. The first part of the book contains an introduction then hundreds of interesting decorative motifs in chronological order. The second half of the book provides templates which can be used for tracing or scanning. The designs in the latter are simpler yet larger and can be used in many ways. The designs come from Byzantine, Scandinavian, Russian and Baltic sources. Plate 14 shows delightful peacocks and other birds surrounding an ornate frieze. Several plates show intricate illuminated letters, some from a fourteenth century Psalter. The plates and reproduction is excellent. A wonderful and varied selection of ornament for designers and artists and those who are interested in all things Russian. This review first appeared on yarnsandfabrics website.

DONALD HEDEKER, PHD, is Professor of Biostatistics in the Division of Epidemiology and Biostatistics, School of Public Health at the University of Illinois at Chicago. He is a Fellow of the American Statistical Association and the author of numerous peer-reviewed papers.

ROBERT D. GIBBONS, PHD, is Director of the Center for Health Statistics; Professor of Biostatistics in the Division of Epidemiology and Biostatistics, School of Public Health; and Professor of Psychiatry in the College of Medicine, all at the University of Illinois at Chicago. He is a Fellow of the American Statistical Association and the author of numerous peer-reviewed papers.

good book with good coverage

This is a good book on this topic. It is not the best of a long list of excellent and highly competitive texts published by Wiley and Springer-Verlag but there cannot be too many books available on this important problem. This text may be better suited for some applied researchers who do not need the theoretical treatment that is given in the Rubin-Little, Verbeke-Molenberghs or the Fitzmaurice texts. The text by Rubin and Little deals with missing data problems in general and not just in the context of longitudinal data. But the Pattern Mixture models developed by Little are commonly used in longitudinal analysis.

I have enjoyed reading 'Simplicity'. At times, the grammar was sloppy and words were used incorrectly, but the overall message was very good. You should read it just to say you have, but you probably won't read it a second time.

Romantic fiction at it's best! A Christian theme, showing the character and protection of God through trial and tribulations; with a conclusion that God will withhold no good thing from those who serve Him and seek His will for their lives. You'll quickly be caught up in the mind of the main character as she seeks God's will, not her will. Great read, buy it, in fact buy two and give one as a gift!
